Fresh details have emerged in the ongoing investigation into an alleged plot to overthrow President Bola Tinubu’s administration, as military intelligence operatives have reportedly arrested and interrogated the Managing Director of a Federal Government agency in the South-South region.
According to reliable security sources, the MD was taken into custody after investigators allegedly traced a large financial transfer from his agency to former Minister of State for Petroleum Resources and ex-Bayelsa Governor, Chief Timipre Sylva.
The transaction, security officials believe, may have been linked to the alleged plot to destabilize the government.
“The MD (name withheld) transferred a huge sum of money to Sylva,” one intelligence officer disclosed. “Investigators are exploring the theory that the funds were connected to the coup plan. He is currently being questioned about the purpose of the transfer.”
It was further learned that Sylva’s Abuja residence was raided by military operatives on Saturday, as part of the expanding probe. During the operation, security agents reportedly arrested his younger brother, Paga Sylva, who serves as his Special Assistant on Domestic Affairs, as well as his driver.
The former minister and All Progressives Congress (APC) chieftain was said to be outside the country at the time of the raid.
Multiple sources familiar with the investigation said Sylva was preparing to return to Nigeria but allegedly suspended his travel plans after learning that several individuals suspected of involvement in the plot had been arrested.
Military authorities have not yet issued an official statement on the development, but sources indicate that the investigation remains active and wide-ranging, with several high-profile figures under scrutiny.
