Nigeria’s Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, has pledged sustained military action against terrorism, saying the Nigerian Army remains undeterred despite challenges in the country.
Shaibu made this known on Friday during an operational visit to Yobe State, where he was received by Governor Mai Mala Buni at the Muhammadu Buhari International Cargo Airport in Damaturu.
According to a statement by the Acting Director of Army Public Relations, Colonel Apollonia Anele, the visit was aimed at assessing the security situation in the North-East and boosting the morale of troops on the frontlines.
The Army Chief said despite recent operational challenges, including attacks on military positions, troops remain focused on fulfilling their constitutional mandate.
He noted that the Nigerian Army is already reviewing and adjusting its operational strategies to respond more effectively to evolving security threats.
Shaibu reiterated that troops would continue to confront terrorism decisively, stressing that new measures are being implemented to sustain gains recorded across various theatres of operation.
He also called on state governments to strengthen collaboration and support for frontline troops in the fight against insecurity.
The Army Chief commended the government and people of Yobe State for their continued cooperation, describing it as crucial to achieving lasting peace in the region.
Addressing troops, Shaibu urged them to intensify operations against insurgents, remain aggressive in engagements, and sustain pressure on terrorist elements.
He said their sacrifices must be honoured through renewed commitment to restoring peace and security across Nigeria.
In his remarks, the Yobe State Deputy Governor, who represented Governor Mai Mala Buni, praised the Nigerian Army for its efforts in restoring stability in affected communities and paid tribute to fallen soldiers.
He noted that despite operational challenges, the Army has continued to demonstrate resilience and record notable successes in the fight against insurgency.
