Nigerian singer-songwriter CKay has reached a historic milestone as his global hit “Love Nwantiti” crossed 1 billion streams on Spotify, making it the first Nigerian solo track to achieve the feat.
Released in 2019, the mellow Afrobeats anthem steadily evolved from a local favourite into an international sensation, fuelled by sweeping TikTok trends and global remixes. The song’s latest streaming numbers place CKay among Africa’s most globally consumed artists.
The singer, celebrating the accomplishment on his X account, expressed gratitude to fans and collaborators, writing that he was “thankful to God and everyone involved in this historic success.”
CKay’s achievement adds a new chapter to Africa’s growing presence on the world’s biggest music platform. In 2017, Wizkid became the first African artist to enter Spotify’s billion-streams club through his feature on Drake’s record-breaking hit “One Dance.”
Rema later became the first African lead artist to reach the benchmark when the remix of “Calm Down,” featuring Selena Gomez, soared past a billion streams.
More recently, South African star Tyla joined the ranks as the first African woman to achieve 1 billion Spotify streams, powered by her viral single “Water.”
CKay’s new record cements his status as one of Afrobeats’ most influential global exports and highlights the genre’s accelerating dominance on the world stage.
