Veteran actor Chiwetalu Agu has publicly dismissed widespread claims that he died, posting a short video on Instagram to tell fans he is alive and well.
In the clip, shared on Friday, Agu asked followers and relatives to ignore the false reports and to report the social account that published the claim.
Introducing himself in the footage, the actor used his customary phrasing and reassured viewers about his health. He then issued a defiant message, saying he would “bury” those who spread the lies, a figurative warning that featured in several media reports.
Agu also said he still plans to enjoy family life, telling the camera he looks forward to carrying his grandchildren when his children are ready, a comment he used to underline that his life is ongoing.
The actor said he would have taken legal action if a high-profile blogger had run the story, but suggested the originator of the rumour was a smaller account chasing likes. He urged followers to flag that page instead of amplifying the falsehood.
The video has been reposted across Nigerian media and social platforms as journalists and fans alike worked to correct the record. Local outlets carrying the clip describe Agu’s response as firm and unambiguous.
Given the speed at which false reports can spread online, Agu’s direct message to followers is the latest example of a celebrity using personal channels to push back against misinformation. Media houses have since linked to his original Instagram reel to verify his statement.
