Veteran Nollywood actor Chiwetalu Agu has cautioned Nigerians against relying solely on prayer as a solution to poverty, insisting that hard work remains the true path to prosperity.
In a viral video shared on X (formerly Twitter), the actor dismissed the widespread belief that financial struggles can be overcome through prayers alone. He emphasized that while prayer opens doors to divine wisdom and favour, tangible success only comes through consistent effort.
“Poverty does not die by fire,” Agu declared. “Pray from now till tomorrow, if you don’t work hard, poverty will deal with you.”
He added that prayer without action is meaningless, stressing that God blesses diligence, not idleness.
“Yes, prayer connects you to divine wisdom and favour, but work is the channel through which blessings manifest. You can pray all day for success, but if you refuse to plan or act, you will still remain poor,” he said.
Agu, known for his memorable roles and proverbial expressions in Nollywood films, urged Nigerians to abandon the “manna mentality”, the belief that miracles alone can bring wealth, and instead cultivate discipline, hard work, and productivity.
His message has resonated widely online, sparking conversations about the balance between faith and personal responsibility in achieving success.
