A regulatory panel under the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria (MDCN) has concluded its preliminary investigation into the death of 21-month-old Master Nkanu Adichie-Esege and referred its findings to the disciplinary tribunal for further proceedings.
The Council said the inquiry was triggered by a formal petition submitted on January 16, 2026, prompting its Investigative Panel to review the circumstances surrounding the case.
As part of the process, medical practitioners from Euracare Multi-Specialist Hospital and Atlantis Paediatric Hospital appeared before the Panel during its 25th sitting in Abuja on February 17–18, 2026. The practitioners submitted written responses and provided oral testimony in line with the Council’s procedures.
After evaluating the evidence presented, the Panel determined that there was sufficient basis to escalate the matter to the Medical and Dental Practitioners’ Disciplinary Tribunal for formal hearing and determination.
The MDCN stated that any interim regulatory actions taken are precautionary and form part of its statutory mandate to uphold professional ethics and standards within the medical and dental professions.
