Super Eagles head coach Eric Chelle has appealed to Nigerians to throw their full support behind the national team as they prepare for a decisive 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying showdown with Benin Republic on Tuesday in Uyo.
Chelle made the call during his post-match interview following Nigeria’s 2-1 victory over Lesotho on Friday — a crucial result that kept the team’s qualification hopes alive.
Goals from William Troost-Ekong and Akor Adams earned the Super Eagles all three points, moving them within touching distance of the group leaders.
“We need to have our fans behind us to put pressure on Benin; this is the World Cup qualifiers,” Chelle said.
“This game [Nigeria vs Benin] starts when they put their feet in our country, we need to do the job on the pitch.”
Benin Republic currently sit top of Group C with 17 points, followed by South Africa on 15 points, while Nigeria are close behind in third place with 14 points.
With only one automatic qualification spot available, Tuesday’s clash at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium promises to be a tense and defining moment in Nigeria’s World Cup campaign.
