Super Eagles head coach Eric Chelle says his team must raise their level when they face the Democratic Republic of Congo in Sunday’s final of the 2026 FIFA World Cup playoffs.
Chelle’s men delivered a commanding 4–1 win over Gabon in Thursday’s semi-final at the Prince Héritier Moulay El Hassan Sports Complex in Rabat, with goals from Akor Adams, Chidera Ejuke, and a Victor Osimhen brace securing the emphatic victory.
Despite the dominant result, the coach insists there is still work to be done ahead of the decisive clash.
“We did a lot of good things against Gabon, but bad things too,” Chelle told reporters after the match. “We have to correct some things for the second game, but I am confident in my players and what they have done.”
The Super Eagles will face the Leopards of DR Congo, who edged Cameroon 1–0 in the other semi-final.
Sunday’s winner will secure Africa’s ticket to the intercontinental playoffs for a chance to reach the expanded 2026 FIFA World Cup.
