Maverick entertainer and activist Charly Boy has shed light on his longstanding relationship with former President Olusegun Obasanjo, describing it as a connection rooted in respect and understanding.
In a post shared Monday on X, Charly Boy acknowledged that many Nigerians were initially puzzled by their closeness, given his outspoken criticism of government policies and his rebellious public image.
He noted that relationships are not always defined by political alignment, arguing that shared values and mutual regard can foster unlikely alliances.
According to him, Obasanjo saw qualities in him that others often overlooked, including courage, consistency and a willingness to stand by his convictions regardless of public opinion.
In return, Charly Boy said he looked beyond Obasanjo’s military background and presidential title, seeing instead an elder statesman who had endured war, leadership pressures and national challenges.
He described their relationship as one built on “quiet understanding,” where disagreements do not erode respect. Conversations between them, he said, often revolve around national issues, with room for differing opinions but without hostility.
Charly Boy also referenced a significant moment in his career when Obasanjo personally hosted the launch of his autobiography, 999, calling it a gesture of honour and acknowledgement.
For him, the bond sends a broader message about the possibility of dialogue in a deeply divided country. He suggested that their connection demonstrates how mutual respect can transcend ego and ideological differences.
