Nigerian singer Ceeza Milli has claimed that he played a pivotal role in discovering and nurturing Ayra Starr before she rose to fame under Mavin Records.
In a recent interview with Yanga FM Lagos, Milli said he first came across Ayra Starr when he was dating a woman who was her school mentor. At the time, he even accommodated the budding singer in his home.
“When I discovered Ayra Starr, I wasn’t really paying attention to keeping artists, but I like to watch artists grow… She can’t deny my impact on her career. I discovered her at a very young age,” he said.
He added, “She was still in school then. She was my ex-girlfriend’s school daughter, so she was even staying at my place at a point.”
Ayra Starr gained widespread recognition after releasing her self-titled debut EP in January 2021 under Mavin Records. Starr has previously shared that Don Jazzy, Mavin’s founder, contacted her in December 2019 after discovering her music on Instagram.
Ceeza Milli’s comments shine a light on the early, behind-the-scenes mentorship that helped shape one of Nigeria’s rising music stars.
