Popular Nigerian streamer Caterefe has revealed that advice he received from fellow content creator Sidney Talker influenced his decision to stop attending church.
Speaking on a recent episode of The Honest Bunch Podcast, Caterefe said he was once a regular churchgoer but began questioning his commitment after an interaction with Sidney, whom he described as a consistent Christian.
According to him, Sidney advised him to quit streaming at a time when his online career was beginning to gain traction. He also alleged that Sidney suggested he part ways with his streaming partner, Kolu, by giving him one million naira.
Caterefe said he interpreted the advice as discouraging and contrary to what he expected from someone active in church.
“I used to go to church but I stopped because I noticed that a lot of churchgoers are very malicious,” he said. “Sidney Talker goes to church consistently yet he advised me to quit streaming. I saw that as malicious advice.”
He further claimed that Sidney warned him about potential spiritual threats linked to Kolu’s former association with singer Portable, suggesting it could negatively affect him.
Caterefe said he was surprised by the warning, questioning why someone devoted to church activities would express fear over such concerns.
The streamer added that the incident strengthened his bond with Kolu, whom he said he later chose as his best friend.
Beyond the controversy, Caterefe also reflected on his personal struggles before venturing fully into streaming. He disclosed that he battled depression for several months when he felt pressure as skit-making began to lose popularity.
According to him, starting a streaming career helped him regain focus and improve his mental state.
The content creator’s remarks have sparked conversations online about faith, mentorship, and loyalty within Nigeria’s entertainment community.
