Nigerian content creator Carter Efe has opened up about his decision to stop attending church, pointing to concerns over financial demands from some pastors.
In a recent video circulating online, the entertainer said his discomfort began after observing what he described as a recurring pattern. According to him, certain clerics establish close personal relationships with congregants and later make private monetary requests.
Efe alleged that in some cases, pastors would ask members for money to cover fuel expenses or contribute toward food items such as cooking ingredients. He said the experiences made him wary.
“Pastor go dey show you love… before you know, pastor go dey tell you say ‘can you give me money for fuel?’ … I dey fear all this pastors,” he said in the video, explaining that such encounters influenced his decision to stay away from church services.
His comments have since sparked mixed reactions on social media. While some supporters commended him for speaking candidly about his experience, others argued that his remarks unfairly generalize pastors.
The discussion has added to ongoing public debates about accountability and financial transparency within religious institutions.
