
A 27-year old carpenter, Toheeb Ahmed has allegedly hacked his grandmother to death at Ore, in Odigbo Local Government area of Ondo State.
THISDAY gathered on Tuesday that the tragic incident, which occurred at Aiyegbami Street, threw the entire community into confusion and fear.
It was further gathered that the deceased, who had been blind for many years, lived quietly in the community before she was hacked to death.
According to eyewitnesses, the suspect was apprehended early Tuesday morning after suspicious movements around the victim’s residence.
One of the sources who preferred anonymity narrated the incident, noting that the suspect, “ has been coming to the house since last Thursday at midnight. This morning, he came to my shop to buy something and said, ‘Mama is dead.’ I felt sorry at first, but when he told me not to inform anyone, I became suspicious. Out of curiosity, I went to Mama’s room while he was away and discovered she had been hacked to death.
“When he returned, I noticed he was carrying a cutlass and was accompanied by a friend, probably to move the corpse. That was when I raised the alarm.”
Other residents described the incident as heartbreaking, attributing it to youthful recklessness and moral decay among the younger generation.
When contacted, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) in the state, Ayanlade Olusola confirmed the unfortunate incident, stressing that the suspect has as been apprehended while investigation is ongoing to unravel the true situation of the incident.
