Social media personality and breast cancer patient popularly known as AuntieEsther has died after a prolonged battle with the disease.
Her death was confirmed on X (formerly Twitter) by a close associate identified as #AUNTYMUSE_, who had supported her throughout her treatment journey. The confirmation followed an earlier post announcing her passing, which drew reactions from several users on the platform.
Reacting to the news, an X user, Tabuko, tweeting as swaggsphotos, wrote, “Unfortunately, we lost Aunty Esther. Very sad!” In response, #AUNTYMUSE_ simply added, “May her soul rest in peace.”
AuntieEsther, whose real name was Mensah Omolola, had been living with breast cancer and became the centre of nationwide attention after publicly declining a blood transfusion recommended by her doctors. She based her decision on her faith as a Jehovah’s Witness, a stance that sparked intense public discussion.
Despite receiving more than ₦30 million in donations to support her medical care, she chose alternative treatments aimed at improving her blood count without transfusion. The fundraising effort, coordinated by charity advocate Wizarab10, reportedly raised ₦30.7 million as of December 1, 2025.
Her decision drew mixed reactions across the country. While some Nigerians questioned the rejection of medical advice despite public financial support, others defended her right to make healthcare choices rooted in personal religious beliefs.
Throughout the process, AuntieEsther expressed gratitude to those who supported her. In a message shared during the fundraising period, she thanked donors and organisers for their generosity and prayers.
Following her passing, tributes and condolences have continued to pour in online, with many reflecting on the sensitive intersection of faith, medical care, and public philanthropy that surrounded her final months.
Her death has once again brought conversations about patient autonomy, religious conviction, and ethical decision-making in healthcare to the forefront of public discourse.
