Former Chelsea captain Gary Cahill has cautioned Arsenal supporters that Manchester City remain very much in the race for the Premier League crown, despite their current position on the table.
Cahill believes Pep Guardiola’s side, known for their resilience and championship mentality, possess everything required to mount a serious push and potentially reclaim the league title before the season ends.
Going into their weekend fixture against Leeds United, Manchester City sit third in the Premier League standings, trailing leaders Arsenal by seven points. Chelsea — who face Arsenal next — occupy second place, just six points behind the Gunners and a single point ahead of City in what has become a tightly contested title battle.
Speaking to newsmen, Cahill insisted that City cannot be dismissed due to their proven consistency and experience in high-pressure title chases.
“Manchester City can [still] challenge Arsenal for the title – they’ve been there and done it and know exactly what it’s all about,” Cahill said.
He added that Chelsea, his former club, have maintained a steady momentum this season, even if much of their progress has gone under the radar.
“They’ll always be in and around the top. Chelsea are also going about their business nice and quietly but at the moment.”
Cahill also acknowledged Arsenal’s impressive form, stating that Mikel Arteta’s team are doing everything required to remain in control of the Premier League race.
“Arsenal are doing everything they need to do and if they continue until the end of the season, they’ll win the league.”
A victory for Chelsea against Arsenal this weekend could narrow the gap between both sides to just three points, adding even more intensity to an already competitive Premier League title fight.
