The CAF Disciplinary Board has officially sanctioned the President of the Cameroonian Football Federation (FECAFOOT), Samuel Eto’o, following a series of incidents during the Africa Cup of Nations quarter-final match between Morocco and Cameroon.
In a formal statement released early Thursday morning, the continental governing body confirmed that the former Barcelona and Chelsea icon breached several ethical and disciplinary standards during the high-stakes encounter in Rabat last weekend.
Morocco ultimately eliminated the Indomitable Lions from the competition with a 2-0 victory, but the fallout from the sidelines has now resulted in significant penalties for the Cameroonian administrator.
The Disciplinary Board found Eto’o in violation of Article 2(3) of the CAF Statutes, which demands strict adherence to the principles of sportsmanship and integrity. Additionally, the committee cited a breach of Article 82 of the CAF Disciplinary Code, specifically targeting his misconduct during the knockout fixture. Consequently, the Board has barred the FECAFOOT President from attending the next four official CAF matches held within the framework of the Africa Cup of Nations.
Beyond the immediate stadium ban, the governing body also imposed a financial penalty of $20,000 as a deterrent against future regulatory infractions. While Eto’o has remained a prominent and often vocal figure throughout the 2025 tournament in Morocco, this ruling severely limits his presence during the final stages of the current and upcoming editions of the competition. The decision underscores CAF’s commitment to maintaining professional conduct among high-ranking officials and federation leaders during its flagship events.
FECAFOOT has reportedly taken note of the decision, though the federation continues to emphasize its support for its leadership amid the ongoing continental season. The ban takes effect immediately, meaning the legendary striker will watch from a distance as the tournament concludes with the third-place play-off and the grand finale this weekend. This disciplinary action adds another chapter to a turbulent campaign for Cameroon, whose exit in the last-eight has now been compounded by these executive sanctions.
