Moroccan international and Paris Saint-Germain standout Achraf Hakimi has been named the 2025 CAF Player of the Year, securing the continent’s top individual honour after an exceptional season with the French champions.
The 27-year-old defender emerged winner ahead of Nigeria’s Victor Osimhen of Galatasaray and Egypt’s Liverpool forward Mohamed Salah. His triumph ends the reign of Super Eagles star Ademola Lookman, who won the prestigious award last year. Hakimi had placed second in the previous two editions before finally taking the top spot.
Hakimi’s influence was pivotal as PSG completed a remarkable campaign, lifting the French Ligue 1 title, the French Cup, and achieving their first-ever UEFA Champions League crown. His performances throughout the season solidified his reputation as one of the most dynamic right-backs in world football.
Despite currently nursing an injury, Hakimi attended Monday night’s ceremony in Rabat with his foot visibly strapped, acknowledging the achievement in person.
