The Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) has announced plans to deploy an Artificial Intelligence (AI) agent to help clear a growing backlog of over 7,000 pending company registration applications, as part of its broader digital transformation strategy.
Speaking at a stakeholder engagement forum in Kano on Monday, Registrar-General and CEO of CAC, Hussaini Ishaq Magaji (SAN), said the Commission is upgrading its existing registration infrastructure by integrating advanced AI technology to improve service delivery across board.
According to him, the new system is designed to manage registration requests, compliance monitoring, and customer inquiries with increased speed, precision, and real-time response capabilities.
“An AI agent is in the pipeline to handle requests across compliance, registry, and customer service with speed and accuracy,” Magaji said.
Instant Name Approval and Email Query Automation
A key feature of the upcoming system includes instant name approval, with the AI capable of suggesting alternative business names when a preferred option is already taken , making the reservation process as simple as opening an email account.
The CAC chief explained that while the full transition to the AI-driven Company Registration Portal (CRP) has not been without hitches, many of the initial challenges particularly delays stemmed from the high volume of applications and limited coverage in the first phase of deployment.
“Problems have been identified, and solutions are already in motion,” he added, reassuring stakeholders that the Commission is actively working to stabilize the new platform.
AI to Manage Over 3,000 Emails Daily
Beyond registration, the AI system is also being configured to handle over 3,000 customer emails daily, a task that currently strains the Commission’s human resource capacity. The tool will be able to:
- Read and interpret emails in under a minute
- Identify duplicate requests
- Redirect inquiries to the appropriate departments automatically
The CAC believes this will lead to quicker resolutions and better customer experience, especially for users frustrated by delayed responses.
The CAC had first launched its AI-driven registration portal in June 2025, as part of ongoing efforts to simplify business registration, enhance transparency, and make Nigeria a more competitive environment for local and foreign investors.
The platform overhaul reflects the federal government’s broader digital economy goals, aiming to reduce bureaucratic red tape and boost ease of doing business rankings globally.
