Allegations that Daniel Bwala, Special Adviser to the President on Policy Communication and Media, once described President Bola Tinubu as a drug lord have been dismissed as false and misleading.
Bwala made the clarification during a television interview on Monday, insisting that he had never made such a statement at any time.
He challenged those making the claim to provide video evidence, maintaining that the allegation originated from social media misrepresentation later amplified by sections of the traditional media.
According to him, the narrative being circulated is entirely false and not reflective of his position or past comments.
The presidential aide also addressed another viral claim suggesting he had said that even 30 years in office would not bring meaningful change under President Tinubu’s leadership.
He explained that the statement was a distortion of his appearance on Channels Television on December 25, 2023, stressing that his comments were focused on policy issues rather than the president’s tenure.
Bwala said his point was that a fundamentally flawed policy would not produce positive outcomes regardless of how long it is implemented.
He maintained that his remarks were taken out of context and widely circulated without proper verification.
He added that he has video evidence of the original interview and is willing to present it to clarify the issue.
Bwala also criticised what he described as the growing trend of unverified social media content shaping mainstream news narratives in Nigeria.
He urged media practitioners to verify information at its source, warning that failure to do so undermines professional journalism and distorts public understanding.
