Galatasaray manager Okan Buruk has confirmed that Victor Osimhen is still not at full match fitness following an injury sustained on international duty with Nigeria two weeks ago.
The 26-year-old striker sat out the Turkish champions’ league fixture against Eyupspor last weekend and was widely expected to return in time for their UEFA Champions League clash with Eintracht Frankfurt. However, his name was absent from the 23-man squad announced on Wednesday.
Speaking to the club’s official website, Buruk explained that Osimhen had made efforts to prove his readiness in training but was ultimately deemed unfit.
“As you know, Osimhen was injured. We couldn’t play him in the league match, but we had hopes of at least making it to this match,” Buruk said.
“The key here was whether he could play with his net. He tried in training over the last two days, but the feedback we received from him was that he wasn’t fit to play at the moment.”
