Nigerian singer and Afrobeat sensation Burna Boy has set a new benchmark in music history with his ‘I Told Them’ tour, now officially the highest-grossing tour by an African artist.
According to the tour tracking platform, the 22-show tour across Europe and North America grossed $30.5 million from 302,801 tickets sold.
The London leg of the tour alone broke records, earning $6.147 million from 58,973 tickets sold at London Stadium on June 29, 2024, making it the highest-grossing concert by any African artist to date.
In North America, the tour generated $15.19 million from 152,378 tickets sold across 16 shows, while six European performances contributed $15.27 million from 150,423 attendees.
“I Told Them… is officially the highest-grossing tour by any Afrobeat artist in history,” the monitoring platform confirmed.
While Burna Boy’s achievement marks a historic moment for African music, American pop superstar Taylor Swift’s ‘Eras’ tour remains the highest-grossing tour of all time, with $2 billion in revenue over 149 shows spanning 21 months.
Burna Boy’s record-breaking tour also doubled the previous highest-grossing music tour held by Elton John’s Farewell Yellow Brick Road tour, highlighting the growing global influence of Afrobeat and African artists on the world stage.
Fans and music industry experts alike have praised the singer for his electrifying performances, impressive ticket sales, and contributions to expanding the global footprint of African music.
