Award-winning Nigerian artiste Burna Boy did not clinch the Best Global Music Album award at the 2026 Grammy Awards, after his project No Sign of Weakness was edged out by Brazilian music veterans Caetano Veloso and Maria Bethânia.
The Brazilian duo secured the prize with their live album, Caetano e Bethânia Ao Vivo, which emerged victorious in a highly competitive category celebrating musical excellence from around the world.
Burna Boy faced stiff opposition in the Best Global Music Album field, which also included Sounds of Kumbha by Siddhant Bhatia, Éclairer le monde (Light the World) by Senegalese legend Youssou N’Dour, and Chapter III: We Return to Light by sitar virtuoso Anoushka Shankar.
The outcome capped a challenging evening for the Nigerian star, who had earlier missed out on the Best African Music Performance award.
That category was won by South African singer Tyla, whose track Push 2 Start triumphed over nominations from Burna Boy, Davido and Ayra Starr.
Despite the losses, Burna Boy remains one of Africa’s most internationally recognised music exports, with multiple Grammy nominations and wins to his name, underscoring his continued influence on the global music scene.
