Former Chelsea midfielder Craig Burley has launched a scathing criticism of Manchester United goalkeeper Altay Bayındır, branding him “absolutely useless” ahead of Sunday’s Premier League derby against Manchester City.
Burley, speaking on ESPN FC, said the Turkey international is the weakest link in Erik ten Hag’s team, particularly when dealing with aerial threats.
According to him, Pep Guardiola’s side should target Bayındır with crosses, free kicks, and set pieces.
“Whether it’s free-kicks, corners, any set-piece, I’m swinging it in under the crossbar,” Burley said.
“Hell, if Man City have somebody that takes long throw-ins, I’m throwing it in Rory Delap-style as well, just piling it into the box.
“He’s absolutely hopeless in coming out and dealing with aerial balls. He might be okay at shot-stopping, but he’s useless at set-pieces.”
Bayındır has stepped in as United’s first-choice goalkeeper following Andre Onana’s absence but has faced scrutiny for his performances this season.
