Former Chelsea midfielder Craig Burley has torn into the Blues following their 3-1 home loss to Brighton, accusing the team of losing focus after their 2025 Club World Cup victory.
Chelsea, who also suffered a 2-1 defeat to Manchester United last weekend, played much of the Brighton clash with 10 men after Trevoh Chalobah was sent off. Goalkeeper Robert Sánchez had been red-carded in the previous game at Old Trafford.
Burley, speaking to ESPN, was scathing in his assessment:
“They haven’t figured out how to be tough to beat when you’re down to 10 men. In adversity, you’ve to learn how to grind out results. We saw it at Manchester United last week—the manager panicked and made sub after sub.
This is a Chelsea side that got carried away with the powder puff Club World Cup. Absolute nonsense.”
The defeat piles more pressure on manager Enzo Maresca, whose side are struggling to find consistency in the Premier League.
