The police in Bukedea district have detained Hellen Ikiror, a 60-year-old woman, for allegedly murdering her co-wife, Josephine Ikoliet, aged 77.
The two were involved in a fight over firewood. Preliminary investigations reveal that the incident occurred on Sunday morning, December 7, 2025, in Kokech village, Malera sub-county, in Bukedea district.
Reports indicate that the conflict arose when Ikoliet attempted to collect firewood that she had previously cut and left to dry on the boundary of their respective properties.
Ikiror allegedly claimed the firewood as her own, leading to a heated confrontation between the two women. The residents in the area reportedly arrested Ikiror and handed her over to Kabarwa police station, where a formal police report was filed by a neighbour, Justine Mwali.
ASP Stephen Mukombe, spokesperson for the South Kyoga regional police, confirmed the ongoing investigation into the matter. He stated, “The body of the deceased is currently at Bukedea health centre IV, pending a postmortem examination. Investigations are ongoing, and we urge members of the public to come forward with any information related to this incident.”
