Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes has humorously deflected his reputation as the Premier League’s most frustrating player by bestowing that title upon Manchester City star Bernardo Silva.
In an unfiltered interview with the Portuguese outlet Canal 11 this week, the 31-year-old midfielder addressed the public perception of his own on-field demeanor, which often involves animated appeals to officials and visible tactical frustration.
Fernandes argued that while he is frequently criticized for his “arm-waving” antics, his national teammate possesses a far more effective—and annoying—brand of competitive persistence.
The Red Devils’ skipper explained that the key difference lies in their respective approaches to interaction with referees and opponents. Fernandes admitted that his inability to mask his emotions often works against him, whereas Silva manages to remain “politically correct” while still getting under the skin of the opposition.
“My image on the pitch makes me seem like someone who is always complaining, but Bernardo Silva is more annoying than me! He is politically correct, and I’m not. My problem is talking with my arms,” Fernandes quipped during the broadcast.
