Bafana Bafana coach Hugo Broos has drafted Kaizer Chiefs defender Thabiso Monyane into the squad as cover for the injured Nyiko Mobbie ahead of next week’s World Cup qualifier against Nigeria.
Mobbie was forced off after just five minutes in Friday’s matchday seven encounter against the Crocodiles of Lesotho, following a heavy clash of heads. He was immediately replaced by Zuko Mdunyelwa.
The setback adds to South Africa’s growing list of injury concerns in the build-up to two crucial fixtures against Lesotho and Nigeria.
Despite the early blow, Broos’ men secured a convincing 3-0 victory over Lesotho, strengthening their hopes of securing a spot at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Bafana Bafana will now turn their attention to their heavyweight clash with the Super Eagles of Nigeria at the Toyota Stadium, Bloemfontein, scheduled for Tuesday next week.
