Nigeria international Bright Osayi-Samuel has been handed a one-match suspension by the English Football Association after accumulating five yellow cards this season.
The right-back was booked during his club’s 1–0 victory over Preston North End on Tuesday night, triggering an automatic ban under FA disciplinary rules, according to the EFL official website.
The booking came just 12 minutes into the match following a foul on Preston striker Daniel Jebbison. His previous cautions this season came in games against Ipswich Town, Blackburn Rovers, Stoke City, and Swansea City.
Osayi-Samuel joined the Championship side on a free transfer during the summer after failing to agree a new deal with Fenerbahçe. Since his arrival, he has become a regular starter, making nine appearances so far this season.
The 26-year-old, who was making his first Championship start since September 30, will now miss his team’s next fixture. He was a late inclusion in the starting lineup at Deepdale, replacing Patrick Roberts, who picked up an injury during the warm-up.
Having only recently returned from a brief spell on the sidelines, Osayi-Samuel was substituted early in the second half as a precaution to manage his fitness.
