President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has expressed deep sorrow over the loss of lives following a recent terrorist attack on Ngoshe community in Gwoza Local Government Area of Borno State.
In a statement issued on Friday by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the President extended heartfelt condolences to the families of those killed during the attack carried out by Boko Haram insurgents.
President Tinubu also acknowledged the deaths of some military personnel and civilians who were reportedly caught in friendly fire during an aerial operation by the Nigerian Air Force targeting fleeing terrorists in the aftermath of the attack.
Describing the incident as a brutal assault on innocent and defenceless citizens, the President urged residents of Borno State and Nigerians across the country not to succumb to fear in the face of terrorism.
He commended the Nigerian military for its swift response to the attack, noting that security forces engaged the insurgents, neutralised several of them, and forced the attackers to retreat from the community.
President Tinubu further directed the military and other security agencies to intensify ongoing operations to rescue those abducted during the attack and to strengthen measures aimed at protecting civilians in vulnerable communities.
He also urged the armed forces to reinforce efforts to prevent further attacks on both civilian populations and military formations across the North-East.
The President offered prayers for the souls of those who lost their lives in the attack and in the subsequent military operation, while extending his sympathies to their families, the government, and the people of Borno State.
