Filmmaker and cultural entrepreneur Bolanle Austen-Peters (BAP) has revealed that her least expensive movie was produced with a budget of N90 million.
The revelation came during her keynote address at the fifth edition of the Peace Anyiam-Osigwe Nigeria Digital Content Regulation Conference, where she discussed the conference theme, ‘From Volume to Value: The Future of Nigerian Motion Picture Industry in the Digital Age.’
BAP shared that her 2021 feature film, Collision Course, later retitled Collision, holds the record for her most modestly funded project. The Nigerian drama, directed by Austen-Peters, explores the intersecting lives of a struggling police officer and an aspiring artist. The cast includes Daniel Etim Effiong, Zainab Balogun, Chioma Chukwuka, Kelechi Udegbe, Norbert Young, and Bimbo Manuel.
Collision Course premiered as the closing film at the 10th Africa International Film Festival (AFRIFF) in November 2021 and later opened the Athens Nollywood Travel Film Festival in May 2022, gaining international recognition.
By highlighting her budget strategy, BAP emphasized that impactful storytelling in Nollywood does not always require blockbuster-level funding, offering lessons for aspiring filmmakers navigating the digital era of Nigerian cinema.
