Nollywood actress and filmmaker Bolaji Ogunmola has voiced frustration over social media commentary, suggesting she may limit her online presence to concentrate more fully on her professional work.
Ogunmola’s reaction followed a comment from a social media user who criticised her on-screen chemistry with a co-star named Daniel. The user claimed the repeated romantic scenes were excessive and warned that such portrayals could lead to real-life emotional involvement.
Referencing Ogunmola’s recent film The Bloom After, the commenter questioned why she did not share a similar romantic scene with another cast member, Anthony. The post also drew a comparison to the early relationship between actors Yul Edochie and Judy Austin, implying that on-screen interactions can blur personal boundaries.
The remarks prompted a sharp response from Ogunmola, who condemned what she described as a lack of professionalism in public commentary. She stressed that her work should not be reduced to isolated scenes and made it clear that her interactions with colleagues remain strictly professional.
In her response, the actress stated that she does not maintain personal relationships with co-stars beyond work-related engagements. She also noted that assumptions made by viewers often reflect personal biases rather than the reality of actors’ lives.
Ogunmola further clarified that The Bloom After is not simply a romance film but a story centred on self-discovery and personal growth. According to her, the movie highlights the journey of a woman rediscovering her worth after years of sacrifice, a narrative she believes resonates with many people in everyday life.
Amid the backlash, Ogunmola hinted that the tone of online discussions may push her to step back from social media altogether, choosing instead to channel her energy into filmmaking and storytelling.
