Following deadly bombings in Maiduguri, the Nigerian Army has issued a security alert, cautioning residents of increased threats from Boko Haram and ISWAP during the final days of Ramadan.
According to Sani Uba, spokesperson for Operation Hadin Kai, the joint military task force in the North-East, intelligence reports indicate a heightened risk of suicide bombings and coordinated attacks by the terror groups, particularly in crowded public spaces.
The alert comes after a series of deadly incidents in Maiduguri. On Monday, suspected Boko Haram suicide bombers targeted a market, a post office, and the entrance to a hospital, killing at least 23 people and injuring more than 100 others.
Earlier the same day, ISWAP operatives attacked military positions in Baga, Damboa, Buratai, and Ajilari, a suburb near Maiduguri’s Air Force base and international airport.
“The final days of Ramadan often see terrorists exploiting large gatherings to inflict maximum harm”, Uba said.
The Army is urging residents to remain vigilant, avoid overcrowded areas where possible, and report any suspicious items or unusual behavior immediately to security personnel.
Troops have intensified patrols, surveillance, and protective measures across the region.
Uba emphasized that public cooperation is critical to preventing further attacks and ensuring a peaceful conclusion to Ramadan and upcoming Eid celebrations.
