Controversial relationship therapist Blessing Okoro, popularly known as Blessing CEO, has come to the defence of Rita Daniels, mother of Nollywood actress Regina Daniels, following renewed public criticism over Regina’s marriage to billionaire politician Senator Ned Nwoko.
Many Nigerians have accused Rita of allegedly influencing her daughter’s decision to marry a much older, polygamous man. However, Blessing CEO dismissed the claims, arguing that it is unfair to hold parents responsible for the actions of their grown children.
In a passionate video shared on Instagram, she said:
“Can we stop this rubbish ‘Na the mama naim I blame’? Can you shut up! At what age did you become a rebel? At what age did you start sneaking out of the house to go and see a man? At what age did you get pregnant? At what age did you start to run out of the house?”
Drawing from her personal experience, Blessing revealed that she defied her parents at a young age despite their guidance.
“At the age of 15, I nor dey hear word. My parents flogged me to stupor. When I decided to marry, my mother begged me, even my father woke me up at 3 a.m. pleading with me not to. They were not poor, but I still made my own choice.”
Blessing also took aim at online commentators who mocked Regina Daniels for discussing her marital issues, calling out the hypocrisy of urging women to speak up while ridiculing them when they do.
“You people tell women to speak out, and when they do, you start mocking them. You can’t have it both ways,” she said.
She concluded by urging Nigerians to stop judging others and to understand that young people often make mistakes.
“We young children make poor decisions. Stop all this nonsense,” she added.
