Nollywood actress and media personality Bisola Aiyeola has reflected on the emotional challenges she faced after discovering she would become a single mother.
In a recent interview, Aiyeola described the initial shock and shame she felt, particularly given her own upbringing. Her mother had also raised a child alone, and she worried about repeating the cycle and the potential impact on her daughter.
“I was scared and ashamed of being pregnant and having a baby out of wedlock. I thought I was going to get married because I was engaged at that time, but we never got married. So it was so shameful because my mum was a single mum and I am about to become one, I feared my child might also have the same fate,” she explained.
The actress noted that financial concerns and her family’s economic struggles intensified her distress, making the early months of motherhood, including breastfeeding, particularly challenging.
Over time, however, Aiyeola said she began to embrace her circumstances, focusing on her daughter’s well-being and cherishing their bond, regardless of the situation in which her child was born.
