Bishop Benson Gathungu Kamau’s Jesus Christ Compassion Church in Ruiru is facing backlash from the youth after hosting President William Ruto on Sunday.
Young worshippers and a section of the faithful slammed the man of the cloth, popularly referred to as Kiengei, for breaking his earlier vow not to allow politicians at the pulpit, accusing him of cozying up to a government alleged to have killed young people during anti-government protests.
Gathungu, popularly known as Bishop Ben Kiengei or “Guka wa Nairobi,” is a prominent Kenyan pastor, philanthropist, comedian and radio presenter.
Kiengei, once a darling of Gen Z youth during protests against the government, had earlier presided over the burial of mask vendor Bonface Kariuki, who was shot dead during the demonstrations.
