Nollywood actress Biodun Okeowo, popularly known as Omoborty, has criticized the trend of comparing celebrity weddings, describing it as “childish and unnecessary.”
Taking to Instagram, the actress argued that the glamour of a wedding does not guarantee the success of a marriage.
Her comments come after fans drew comparisons between the recent weddings of Mr. Eazi and Temi Otedola, and that of Davido and Chioma, with heated debates over which celebration was “better.”
According to Okeowo, true happiness in marriage comes from love and commitment, not from how extravagant a wedding appears.
“Money can decorate a hall but it can’t decorate marriage. Wealth or no wealth does not decide taste,” she wrote. “An intimate wedding does not mean there is no money, and an elaborate wedding does not automatically prove wealth.”
She added that couples should be free to celebrate their weddings in their own unique way, whether simple, extravagant, or in between, without the pressure of public comparison.
“Some even go into debt just to have the lavish wedding of their dreams. Marriage for most happens once, so the wedding should reflect the couple’s dream. Comparing weddings and rating them is pointless,” she emphasized.
Her remarks have resonated with many fans online, sparking conversations about society’s obsession with celebrity lifestyles and the misplaced emphasis on luxury as a measure of marital success.
