Nollywood actress Bimbo Thomas has shared details of a frightening armed robbery incident that occurred during the filming of Omo Ghetto: The Saga in Lagos.
The actress recounted that gunmen stormed a hotel where the cast and crew were lodged in Ebute Metta, causing panic among those present. She disclosed the experience during an interview with media personality Chude Jideonwo.
According to Thomas, the attackers appeared to be searching for the film’s producer and lead actress, Funke Akindele. She explained that shooting the movie, which portrayed street life and gang culture, often attracted unwanted attention from hoodlums in the area, even with security measures in place.
She said the incident unfolded around midnight when loud noises and shouts alerted the actresses to danger. In fear, they reportedly took cover in a bathroom, praying and attempting to prevent Akindele from being identified.
Thomas revealed that the attackers eventually gained access and took Akindele outside, where she was allegedly compelled to sing and dance before security operatives intervened and brought the situation under control.
Describing the experience as traumatic, the actress said the attackers were later chased away, with some reportedly arrested or killed. She linked the incident to earlier tensions during filming, including the arrest of some locals who had disrupted the set and were later made to apologise.
Thomas expressed gratitude that no lives were lost, noting that the incident remains one of the most disturbing moments of her career and a reminder of the risks sometimes faced during film production in volatile locations.
