Nollywood star Bimbo Akintola has revealed why she has repeatedly declined marriage proposals, saying she is determined to wait until she finds the right person.
The 52-year-old actress explained in a recent interview that her single status is not a burden, but a conscious choice. She noted that despite receiving multiple proposals, she has no regrets about turning them down.
“For me not to have found my partner, the person I want to spend the rest of my life with, I don’t see it as a negative. I’ve been proposed to many times, and I’ve said no,” Akintola said.
The actress cautioned against marrying simply to satisfy societal expectations, pointing to Nigeria’s rising divorce rates as evidence of hasty decisions.
“Did you just marry because people say marry? Look at divorce ratings now in Nigeria, it’s skyrocketing. Some people are married before they even leave the reception,” she added.
Beyond marriage, Akintola also spoke about gender responsibility. She urged parents to raise boys and girls with equal values, particularly when it comes to accountability.
“Teach your sons that their body is the temple of God the same way you teach your daughters. As soon as you impregnate a girl, no more school for you, my dear. Go and work and raise your child,” she advised.
She further encouraged women to prioritize men with strong work ethics over those who rely solely on wealth as a measure of success.
With decades of experience in Nollywood, Akintola continues to inspire conversations about personal choices, responsibility, and values both on and off screen.
