The Governor of Benue State, Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Alia, has strongly condemned the brutal killings of 12 people in Tyungu Jam and Mbaav communities, located in the Yaav and Mbadura council wards of Kwande Local Government Area.
In a statement, Governor Alia described the attack as “barbaric, senseless, and completely unacceptable,” expressing deep sorrow and outrage over the tragic loss of innocent lives. He also extended his heartfelt condolences to the families of the victims and prayed for the quick recovery of those injured during the attack.
The Governor emphasised that every life is precious, noting that the loss of even a single life is a grave tragedy. He assured residents of Kwande and the entire Benue State that his administration remains firmly committed to bringing the perpetrators to justice.
Governor Alia directed security agencies to intensify efforts to track down and apprehend those responsible for the killings, while also strengthening measures to prevent further attacks in the affected communities.
Sharing in the pain and concerns of the people of Kwande, the Governor reaffirmed his administration’s unwavering commitment to safeguarding the lives and property of all citizens. He stressed that the government will not be discouraged by individuals or groups who seek to undermine peace and stability in the state.
The Governor also acknowledged the recent deployment of more than 400 security personnel to Jato Aka and other parts of Kwande Local Government Area. However, he noted that the latest attacks highlight the need for even stronger security measures and coordinated efforts to fully address the challenges of insecurity in the area.
“I understand the pain, frustration, and desire for lasting peace among the people of Kwande,” the Governor said. “My administration will not relent until peace and security are fully restored.”
Governor Alia appealed to residents to remain calm and continue cooperating with security agencies as they work to stabilise the area. While noting that the challenges of insecurity are complex, he expressed confidence that they can be overcome through collective effort and sustained action.
He reaffirmed his administration’s determination to ensure that lasting peace returns to Kwande Local Government Area and Benue State as a whole.
