After leading Harambee Stars to their second quarter final berth of any continental showpiece, head Coach Benni McCarthy was crowned August Coach of the Month. The former striker becomes the third foreigner to win the award in 2025 after his country man Kabras Sugar’s Carlos Katywa in April and Kenya Police FC’s Etienne Ndayiragije in June.
McCarthy, inspired Harambee Stars to their first quarter final slot in 38 years in the just concluded CHAN, recording wins over Morocco, Zambia, and DR Congo before bowing out to Madagascar in post-match penalties. For his feat, McCarthy pockets Sh100,000 and a personalised trophy, edging out strong nominees including Strathmore Leos 7s coach William Ojal, Malkia Strikers head coach Geoffrey Omondi, Jackline Barasa of the women’s U-20 volleyball team, and St Peter’s Boys Mumias rugby coach Nelson Jaika.
