Security agencies have intensified investigations into the attack on the 2023 presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Peter Obi, leading to the arrest of a suspect by the Department of State Services (DSS).
According to reports, the arrest followed what security sources described as a detailed investigation into the incident, which occurred last Tuesday at the residence of former Edo State Governor, John Odigie-Outgun, in Benin City, Edo State.
The gathering reportedly turned violent shortly after Obi and other party figures visited the ADC secretariat to formally welcome the party’s 2023 Edo governorship candidate, Olumide Akpata, into the party.
The National Coordinator of the Obidient Movement, Yunusa Tanko, confirmed details of the attack, stating that the incident happened after the political delegation had concluded its engagement.
Security authorities have not released full details of the suspect’s alleged role, but investigations are ongoing to determine the circumstances surrounding the attack and whether additional individuals were involved.
