Former Watford goalkeeper Ben Foster says Bournemouth boss Andoni Iraola would be the “perfect” manager to replace Rúben Amorim at Manchester United.
Amorim’s position is under scrutiny after United’s poor start to the season, despite spending more than £170m on signings including Benjamin Šeško, Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo. The Red Devils face Sunderland at Old Trafford this weekend.
Several names have been linked with the job, from Crystal Palace’s Oliver Glasner to former England manager Gareth Southgate. But Foster believes Iraola has already shown his coaching credentials in the Premier League.
“Iraola is the one for me,” Foster said on The Cycling GK podcast.
“To lose half your squad, half your starting line-up, and then still be just as impressive – for me, that means you’re a proper coach.”
Foster added that luring either Iraola or Glasner would prove costly, while Southgate would represent “a different approach” after a series of failed managerial appointments since Sir Alex Ferguson’s retirement.
