Former Manchester United star, David Beckham, has backed Newcastle United to be the surprise package in this season’s UEFA Champions League.
Eddie Howe’s side secured qualification after finishing fifth in the Premier League last season and also lifted the Carabao Cup, defeating Liverpool in the final.
Speaking to CBS Sports, Beckham said:
“My surprise would have to be Newcastle because people are already writing them off. I think Newcastle are a good team, and I think they’ve got some good players. They’re very together as a team, and as fans, and as a club. I think that they could surprise a few people.”
The Magpies kick off their 2025–26 Champions League campaign with a tough opener against Barcelona at Camp Nou on Thursday.
In the Premier League, however, Newcastle sit 10th on the log with just five points from four games.
