Big Brother Naija winner, Ijeoma Otabor, popularly known as Phyna, has accused the Dangote Group of neglect and insensitivity in the aftermath of her sister Ruth’s death and burial.
In a series of Instagram posts, Phyna alleged that her sister’s passing was not only tragic but “calculated and planned.” She claimed the company failed to take full responsibility for expenses related to Ruth’s medical treatment and funeral, despite earlier public promises.
According to Phyna, Dangote Group only settled bills at Lagoon Hospital, Lagos, while her family was left to cover additional medical costs incurred during transfers from Auchi to Irrua.
“The bills from Auchi down to Irrua were covered by the family; no refund has been made,” she wrote.
Phyna further stated that efforts to contact the company on September 13, the day of the burial, were unsuccessful, as the family was told certain bills had not been paid despite Dangote Group’s claims to the contrary.
The reality star also published a letter she said was sent by the company to her father, asking him to sign an acknowledgment of receipt for burial expenses. She described the move as an act of impersonation, questioning why the family was not directly approached.
“This letter that was sent to my dad this evening is really paining me,” she said. “You killed my sister, did massive PR, gave the girl’s papa money for burial, then wrote an acknowledgment letter impersonating my father and sent it to him to sign.”
Phyna criticized what she described as a deliberate attempt by Dangote Group to shape the narrative after her sister’s passing, insisting that her family deserved transparency and respect instead of what she called “damage control.”
Neither Phyna nor Dangote Group has released further official statements as of press time.
