Former Big Brother Naija housemate Anto Lecky has opened up about the challenges she faced in the workplace due to stereotypes surrounding reality TV stars.
Speaking at a recent gathering, Anto said many people assumed she lacked intelligence or professional ability simply because she once featured on the reality show.
She noted that women, especially those in the spotlight, often battle biases that portray them as less capable. However, she stressed that individuals should not let such perceptions define them.
“You do not want to work for a company that does not allow you to prove yourself,” Anto explained. “Many years ago, people believed women who went on Big Brother were only there to sell themselves—not professionally. So oftentimes, when I walk into a room, I can tell people judge me first by that label.”
Rather than letting this discourage her, Anto said she has embraced the importance of focusing on skills, talents, and education. She encouraged individuals to keep improving themselves, stressing the value of continuous learning, unlearning, and relearning.
“Someone out there is looking for the skills that you have,” she said. “Don’t worry about those who are not looking for you. One day, someone will see your CV and rush to hire you. Keep practicing and be prepared for opportunities when they come.”
The former reality star added that career growth is not always linear, urging people to take advantage of communities, groups, and networks that support talent regardless of experience levels.
