Former Big Brother Naija Season 10 housemate, Thelma Lawson, has opened up on why her anticipated friendship with Isabella never materialized during their stay in the reality show.
Thelma, who exited the show on Saturday night in a surprise double eviction alongside Bright Morgan, revealed in her post-eviction interview that the fallout stemmed from her bond with fellow housemate Kayinkunmi, someone she had known before entering the competition.
According to her, Isabella misinterpreted the closeness as romantic, which fueled tension between them.
“It’s unfortunate that Isabella and I never really became friends. I genuinely looked forward to connecting with her because she is a mother to a 14-year-old son. I wanted to learn life from her perspective. But things changed because Kayinkunmi, who is my friend outside the house, was also in the game,” Thelma explained.
The rift deepened when Thelma, as Head of House, chose Kayinkunmi as her deputy. She recalled Isabella’s reaction to the decision as the moment she realized the misunderstanding had taken root.
“Her reaction that night showed me she had taken it too far. I felt it wasn’t the right moment for a conversation,” she added.
Thelma further clarified that while she intentionally kept the depth of her pre-existing friendship with Kayinkunmi private, it was never about secrecy but rather to avoid being used for “highlights.”
“Kayinkunmi is my friend and that was why I chose him as deputy. I didn’t want anyone using us for content, so I only explained to those who asked directly. Unfortunately, by the time Isabella realized there was nothing between us, the damage had already been done,” she said.
Despite the tension, Thelma noted that she had hoped for a genuine connection with Isabella, but the misunderstanding prevented the friendship from ever taking shape.
