Bayern Munich have been hit with a major setback ahead of their UEFA Champions League tie against Chelsea on Wednesday.
According to Bild, left-back Raphael Guerreiro has been ruled out after sustaining an abdominal muscle injury in Bayern’s 5-0 Bundesliga win over Hamburg last weekend.
The Portuguese defender now joins Alphonso Davies and Hiroki Ito on the sidelines, leaving manager Vincent Kompany short of options at left-back.
As a result, Kompany may be forced to deploy Josip Stanisic, a natural right-back, on the left when the Bundesliga champions take on the Premier League side at the Allianz Arena.
Bayern confirmed via their official website on Monday that Guerreiro had picked up a “minor injury,” but he will not be fit in time for the crucial European encounter.
