Bayern Munich loanee Edna Imade has officially committed her international career to Spain, ruling out future appearances for Nigeria or Morocco.
The striker made her competitive debut for La Roja during the first leg of the UEFA Women’s Nations League final on Friday. Born in Morocco to a Nigerian mother, Imade was eligible to represent either the Super Falcons or the Moroccan national team.
The Nigeria Football Federation had made efforts to convince the forward to represent Nigeria, and she had been open to the possibility before Spain intervened. Ultimately, Imade chose to pursue her international career with Spain following a maiden call-up by coach Sonia Bermúdez for the two-legged Nations League final against Germany.
Imade replaced Esther Gonzalez in the 85th minute of the first-leg match, a move that permanently ties her to Spain under UEFA regulations. At 25, the striker’s decision closes the door on representing either Nigeria or Morocco in future international competitions.
