Bayelsa Queens will be aiming to reclaim the WAFU B Women’s Champions League crown when they square off against host club ASEC Mimosas of Côte d’Ivoire in Friday’s final in Yamoussoukro.
The Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL) champions lifted the trophy on their debut in 2022 and are determined to add a second title to their growing reputation on the continental stage.
Head coach Whyte Ogbonda has overseen an impressive campaign for the side, nicknamed the Prosperity Girls. They opened the tournament with a 2-1 win over Ghana’s Police Ladies, before cruising past ASKO of Togo 3-0 and Sam Nelly of Benin Republic 4-1 in their subsequent group matches.
In the semi-finals, Bayelsa Queens battled past USFA of Burkina Faso with a gritty 2-1 victory to book their place in the showpiece final.
The Nigerians are looking to emulate the success of Edo Queens, who won the last edition of the competition, by keeping the trophy in the country.
