Bayelsa State Governor, Douye Diri, has officially resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). The announcement, made on Wednesday at the Executive Council Chamber of the Bayelsa Government House, marks a major political shift in the state.
Governor Diri, however, did not disclose his next political destination. His decision has received strong backing from 23 members of the Bayelsa State House of Assembly, led by the Speaker, signaling a significant realignment within the state’s political structure.
The governor’s exit comes barely 24 hours after Enugu State Governor, Peter Mbah, also dumped the PDP to join the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC)—a move that appears to be reshaping the political landscape across southern Nigeria.
